Audi ready for Formula 1 debut
The brand of the four rings has to its credit many victories in all sporting disciplines from the 24 Hours of Le Mans to the Dakar and many more. Now, however, the ambition is to win the F1 world title.
Key points
The Formula 1 era has begun at Audi. After the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the DTM, the Touring Car Championship, the Dakar as well as the American IMSA Championship, in which the Ingolstadt brand has always won on the track, the time has come for Audi to enter what has always been recognised as the Olympus of motor racing, Formula 1, the challenge of challenges.
An elegant single-seater with unique technology
If Audi's ambition was to have an elegant and eye-catching single-seater on the grid, to achieve this ambitious goal, the German team chose a language that was perhaps as clean as possible on the grid. And one that would also communicate the precision of engineering, the DNA of the Audi road cars. Everything is now ready. Now it will be the turn to evaluate the first performances on the track.
Two predominant colours, the black of the carbon and the red of the rings
There are many aerodynamic appendages left unfinished with carbon in view, alternating with minimalist graphics with two geometric cuts in black and red, the same colour used to make the four rings on the bonnet stand out. A choice that is also underpinned by technical motivations, because less paint can shave off important grams of weight on the track.
The goal is to win the F1 world championship by 2030
At the front of the car body, the chosen colour scheme is brushed titanium. AllAudi have made no secret of the fact that the goal is to win a world title by 2030. The first GPs will be functional to break in the processes to reach the championship points and then fight for the podium. The first appointment is for the weekend of 8 March in Melbourne for the first GP of the season in Australia.
The team is ready to work towards a world title in Formula 1
Finally, the team. The project manager is an Italian, former Ferrari driver Mattia Binotto. The drivers on the grid will be the talented Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto, F2 world champion in 2024, who will be flanked by the export driver Nico Hulkenberg, who not surprisingly has over 250 GPs behind him. There will be no shortage of competition, but Audi's sporting coat of arms is a guarantee of its many successes.
