Everything is ready for the baccalaureate 2025, which will probably be the last one with the current rules, as the Minister for Education and Merit, Giuseppe Valditara, has hinted in recent days.

The state exam affects 524,415 students, including 13,066 external candidates. More than half of the 2025 school-leavers come from high schools (268,577 to be precise), while 169,682 have attended one of the technical education courses and 86,156 a vocational one.

Today, the preliminary meetings of the examining boards will take place, which will define the final organisational details, such as the calendar of exam operations, the analysis of the documentation submitted by the class council for each candidate, and the criteria for the preparation and choice of interview materials.

The examination commissions - which again this year are mixed, i.e. consisting of three internal members and three external members such as the president - number 13,900 for a total of 27,698 classes (generally each commission examines two classes).

Go to the writings

Wednesday 18 June at 8.30 a.m. the first test, the Italian test, will take place, which is decided by the ministry (i.e. it is the same throughout Italy); it has a maximum duration of six hours and consists of writing a paper with different text types in the artistic, literary, philosophical, scientific, historical, social, economic and technological fields.

On the following day, it will be the turn of the second national written exam, which will concern the address subject. These subjects are all already known to the students, having been chosen at the end of January: at the classical high school, Latin is back (last year Greek came out); at the scientific high school (also for the applied sciences option and the sports-oriented section), mathematics has instead been confirmed.

Linguistic students will have to deal with foreign language and culture.
In the technical institutes, business economics will be tackled in the 'Administration, Finance and Marketing' curriculum.

Conduct Strictly

.

The real novelty this year, in addition to the school-to-work alternance (Pcto), which is back as an admission requirement (the 'assimilated activities' are also valid), concerns the conduct grade, as a result of the innovations called for by law 150/2024.

If the conduct mark is six tenths, at the oral interview the candidate must discuss a critical paper, defined by the class council, on the subject of active citizenship and solidarity based on respect for constitutional principles.

The behaviour grade also affects credits for admission to the state examination (the 40 highest credits can only be awarded to pupils who have scored nine tenths and above).

From next year

It is precisely on the interview that the main changes announced by Minister Valditara will also focus: the goal, the MIM holder has repeatedly stressed, is to make the State examination a true 'maturity' examination, starting with the restoration of this name. The aim is to make the oral exam less and less a 'mere questioning' and more and more a 'multidisciplinary test'.

With this in mind, the school-to-work pathways, the student curriculum, orientation activities, civic education, in order to bring out that 'overall student maturity' with respect to the study pathway, will be better emphasised. The ministerial technicians are already at work; the idea is to be ready for the next school year.
