It won’t be long before the first bell rings this year, and for many parents, transport is a key issue.
An ideal world: children walking to school – a maximum of 10 minutes’ walk – cycling in complete safety thanks to dedicated cycle lanes, taking just one bus without having to wake up two hours early and make four changes, or even travelling by school bus.
Real life: parents who become drivers to take their children to school, either because public transport is often inadequate or because the children are too young to go on their own (to avoid the risk of a cycling accident), because the journey from home to school does not fall within the concept of the ‘15-minute city’, or simply because the car is the only means of transport available.
