Bad weather, showers and thunderstorms: yellow alert in 13 regions on Monday

A weather system moving across Central Europe will intensify unstable conditions over parts of the Italia, bringing showers and thunderstorms, some of which may be severe. Based on the available forecasts, the Civil Protection Department, in consultation with the regions concerned – which are responsible for activating civil protection systems in the affected areas – has issued a warning of adverse weather conditions.

These weather events, which are affecting various parts of the country, could lead to hydrogeological and hydraulic risks, which are summarised in a national overview in the national risk and alert bulletin available on the Department’s website (www.protezionecivile.gov.it).

The warning forecasts scattered rainfall, mainly in the form of showers and thunderstorms, from late morning on Monday 17 August across Lombardy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna, extending to Tuscany, Umbria, Marche and Abruzzo. These conditions will be accompanied by heavy downpours, strong gusts of wind, localised hailstorms and frequent lightning.

Based on the forecast weather conditions, a yellow alert for meteorological and hydrological risks has been issued for 13 regions on Monday. The weather forecast and details of the risks expected across Italia are updated daily in line with the latest forecasts and as conditions develop, and are available on the Civil Protection Department’s website (www.protezionecivile.gov.it), together with general guidelines on how to behave in the event of bad weather.

Information on regional alert levels, specific risks that may affect individual areas, and the preventive measures taken is managed by the local civil protection agencies; the department will monitor developments in the situation in liaison with them.
