Bad weather in Calabria, Cdm deliberates state of emergency for one year

Following the exceptional meteorological events that occurred from 11 to 20 February in Calabria, in the territory of the provinces of Catanzaro and Cosenza, the government has accepted the proposal of the Minister for Civil Protection and Sea Policies, Nello Musumeci, by decreeing a state of emergency for twelve months. "The department's technicians," the minister declared, "have provided for an allocation of 15 million euro, from the National Emergencies Fund. The resources are earmarked for the implementation of the first urgent relief and assistance measures for the population and the restoration of the functionality of public services and infrastructures. They will be proceeded with ordinances of the Head of the Civil Protection Department, in agreement with the Region concerned'.

At this afternoon's session, the Meloni government, following Minister Nello Musumeci's report, approved further allocations to allow the respective delegated commissioners of three regions to complete their civil protection interventions. The measure concerns the regions of Liguria (metropolitan city of Genoa, province of Savona) for 15 million and 640 thousand euros; Emilia Romagna (municipality of Palagano) for 11 million and 985 thousand euros; and Piedmont (metropolitan city of Turin, provinces of Alessandria, Asti, Biella, Cuneo, Vercelli and Verbano-Cusio-Ossola) for the sum of 45 million and 400 thousand euros. "The interventions," explained Minister Musumeci, "range from relief and assistance to the population to restoring the functionality of public services and infrastructures, support for the economic and social fabric and structural works to reduce the residual risk.
