The A23 motorway was closed for hours in Friuli due to a landslide that fell in the municipality of Amaro, in the province of Udine. The Sahara sand returned to the snow in the mountains of Valtellina in Lombardy, and in Piedmont, where the white blanket reached a height of 4 metres in the Pennine and Lepontine Alps. For 2 April, the Civil Protection has issued an orange alert for hydraulic risk in Emilia-Romagna and the Modena plain. Yellow alert, instead, in Friuli Venezia-Giulia, Lombardy and Veneto.
In Calabria, on the other hand, almost summer temperatures were recorded, with the thermometer reaching 25 degrees in some inland areas. Tradition was respected with out-of-town trips to the mountains and the sea, with restaurants and agritourisms sold out. Foreign tourist numbers are on the increase in the main seaside resorts such as Tropea and Scilla on the Tyrrhenian Sea and Le Castella and Soverato on the Ionian Sea. Summer temperatures also in Sicily. The Mondello beach in Palermo was stormed by bathers, especially foreigners.
In the north, the municipality of Livigno, in the province of Sondrio, is isolated due to the heavy snowfall and the Foscagno pass will be closed until at least 6 p.m. The Bernina pass, on the other hand, will be closed until tomorrow, and will only be open as far as the Diavolezza. An avalanche also brought down three electricity poles, causing inconvenience in some areas. Mayor Remo Galli made an appeal via social media to tourists and skiers urging them to stay in their hotels. "The situation is quite critical because of the snow and the strong wind," the mayor explained, "My advice is to stay in your hotels and use the utmost caution.
In the Brescia area, in Val Camonica, some torrents overflowed and there were landslides in Edolo: the fire brigade was at work with several teams: 15 people living in a flooded area were evacuated.
The Lazio Regional Civil Protection Agency has instead issued a yellow alert from this afternoon, 1 April 2024, and for the next 6 hours. Scattered rainfall is forecast in Lazio, including showers or thunderstorms, with light or moderate cumulative quantities.
