At the moment - the Carabinieri explain - work is in progress to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the robbery and to quantify the loot; from the first ascertainments, the thieves managed to take away precious objects and money. According to local websites, a group of at least five armed people broke into the footballer's villa: at that moment, Baggio was at home with his family and, according to some reconstructions, tried to stop the thieves. One of them, however, allegedly hit him on the forehead with the butt of a gun.
The Baggio family was then locked in a room while the gang raided the villa in search of money and valuables. The alarm was raised by the footballer himself, who managed to break down the door and contact the Carabinieri. Baggio was then allegedly taken to the nearby Arzignano emergency room, where he was given a few stitches.
On Friday morning, there was an inspection of Roberto Baggio's villa by the Carabinieri, who are conducting the investigation. Together with the military, the former footballer himself was present. Baggio was treated in the night at the emergency room in Arzignano (Vicenza), a town not far from Altavilla Vicentina. The doctors, according to information, applied a few stitches on his head, from the blow suffered by one of the bandits. Once discharged, again during the night, Baggio was then heard at the Vicenza Carabinieri barracks, which are investigating the episode. In front of the villa's gate there is a coming and going of passers-by and curious onlookers, together with journalists who are waiting for news.
Baggio: 'Thanks for the affection, now we must overcome fear'
."First of all, my family and I would like to thank everyone for the great affection we have received. Really thank you. These were the first words that Roberto Baggio released through his long-time manager, Vittorio Petrone. 'In such circumstances,' Baggio continued, 'anything can happen, and fortunately the violence suffered only generated a few stitches to my person, bruises and a lot of fear. Now it remains to overcome the fear,' he concludes.
The former footballer, a native of Caldogno (Vicenza), has settled in his farm estate, which is located on a hill overlooking Altavilla Vicentina, for about 15 years. The villa is isolated and is in the middle of a large piece of countryside and woods. Roberto Baggio lives with his wife Andreina and his three children.
