Ballot in Aosta, autonomist Rocco new mayor by only 15 votes
He beat the centre-right candidate who was aiming for revenge on the autonomists after his recent defeat at the regional elections
Per soli 15 voti Raffaele Rocco, 63 anni, ingegnere e dirigente regionale dei lavori pubblici, è il nuovo sindaco di Aosta. Vicesindaco è l’avvocato Valeria Fadda. Erano sostenuti dalle forze autonomiste (Union Valdôtaine, Stella Alpina, Rassemblement Valdôtain e Pour l’Autonomie), dalla lista civica Rev e dal Partito democratico. Al ballottaggio hanno ottenuto il 50,06% dei voti (6.420) mentre i loro avversari, l’imprenditore Giovanni Girardini come sindaco e Sonia Furci come vicesindaco, espressione del centrodestra che puntava alla rivincita sugli autonomisti dopo la recente sconfitta alle regionali, hanno avuto il 49,94% (6.405). Al primo turno Rocco aveva ottenuto il 45,29% e Girardini il 42,69%.
28,590 citizens were called to the polls. For the runoff round, the turnout was 45.7% (equal to 13,071 voters). 45.93% had voted in the 2020 runoff.
A clear majority emerged from the last regional elections on Sunday 28 September, the Union Valdôtaine and the Autonomist Centre, which will have to evaluate in the coming weeks whether to confirm an alliance with the Democratic Party or attempt an enlargement to the more moderate part of the centre-right (Forza Italia, in primis). Crucial decisions that will also depend on the results of the political 'yard' in Aosta.
