Ballots in six provincial capitals: here are all the challenges
The centre-right regrouped against Giovanni Legnini in the lead after the first round. In Arezzo, the civic Donati, supported by Azione, is the decisive candidate, although he leaves the vote free. Voting is also taking place in Lecco, Macerata, Trani and Agrigento. Vannacci unknown in Vigevano
Key points
It will be above all the ballots in the six provincial capitals where voting will return on 7 and 8 June (Agrigento, Arezzo, Chieti, Lecco, Macerata, and Trani) that will provide a final balance of the spring local elections. The most important challenge, that of Venice, saw the (unexpected) confirmation of the centre-right, which also wrested from the wide field an important capital such as Reggio Calabria. The centre-left consoled itself with victory in Avellino and the reconquest, after nine years, of Pistoia. And now it is counting on the ballots to make this electoral round less bitter.
The centre-right is reunited in Chieti
In the run-up to the second round, alliances (the deadline expired on Sunday), net of small civic lists, are the exception. The formal agreement is in place in Chieti, where the centre-right, divided in the first round, is reuniting to try to undermine the candidate of the wide field Giovanni Legnini, in the lead with 47.2%. And so Cristiano Sicari (27.5%), supported by FdI and FI, will be able to count on the support of Lega and Udc candidate Mario Colantonio (16.7%), as well as civic candidate Alessandro Carbone (4.7%).
Agrigento in no particular order
Centre-right divided in the first round also in Agrigento. But here there are no appearances. Competing for the mayoral seat are Michele Sodano (Progressive Camp), in the lead with 39.1%, and Dino Alonge supported by Fi-Fdi-Udc and autonomists with 34.8%. Leghist Luigi Gentile (third with 14.1%), who is also supported by the DC and Noi moderati, says no to political alliances. Although the regional commissioner of the League, Nino Germanà, invites 'not to vote for the centre-left'. And Noi moderati declares support for Alonge. No affiliation either from the civic Giuseppe Di Rosa, fourth with 12% after the first round.
Ad Arezzo centrists at the window
In Arezzo, instead, Vincenzo Ceccarelli (centre-left), with 32.4%, is behind the centre-right candidate Marcello Comanducci (43.8%). The needle of the scales is Marco Donati, third with 20.5%, supported by Action and Civics, who, however, does not take sides and leaves the vote free.
The challenge in Lecco
In Lecco, the challenge is between outgoing centre-left mayor Mauro Gattinoni (42.5%) and centre-right candidate Filippo Boscagli, ahead with 48.6%. Mauro Fumagalli, candidate of the centrist civic list Orizzonte per Lecco, remains at the window, third with 5.2%.
