Mourning in the world of Cuneo business. Alessandra Balocco, president and CEO of the Cuneo-based food group of the same name, has passed away. Alessandra Balocco, the third generation of the family of entrepreneurs in the confectionery sector, had been ill for some time. She joined the company in 1990 after the death of her brother, Alberto Balocco, and in 2022 had taken over the reins of the family business, founded in 1927.

In a note, the Group announced the death - 'Balocco Spa, all its employees and collaborators, announce with immense sorrow the passing of Alessandra Balocco, President and CEO of the Company, today' - and announced that the funeral will be held confidentially.

"Alessandra, 61 years old, at the helm of the company since 2022, in the company since the 1990s alongside her father Aldo and brother Alberto, represented a reference figure for the entire group throughout her life, contributing with total dedication, determination and competence to the growth and consolidation of the company in Italy and on international markets," the company wrote in a note released a few hours after her death.

The Board of Directors, made up of Ruggero Costamagna, Marco Costamagna, Diletta Balocco, Assunta Pinto and Gianfranco Bessone, 'will continue the company's development by faithfully following the example and guidelines set by Alessandra'. The company expressed its closeness to the family 'at this time of great sorrow and joins in the mourning of the Fossano community and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working with her'.

The mayor of Fossano, Dario Tallone, has already announced the proclamation of national mourning on the day of the funeral and expressed 'sentiments of esteem and sincere gratitude for the intelligent and far-sighted work that Alessandra has carried out over the years, contributing significantly to the economic and social growth of the city of Fossano and our territory'.

In the summer of 2022, on 27 August, Alberto Balocco, then managing director of the group, died at the age of 56, killed by lightning during a mountain bike excursion in the upper Susa Valley. After the sudden death of her brother, Alessandra Balocco had taken over the position until then held by her brother.

'The death of Alessandra Balocco is very sad news for our Piedmont,' says Piedmont Region President Alberto Cirio. "We lose a woman of value who was able to fully embody that tradition of the great entrepreneurial families of our land that know how to combine growth, vision and care for their communities. My condolences to the family and those of Piedmont as a whole,' President Cirio stressed.

'What happened to us is a serious, unexpected thing, but we have resisted, the company has resisted because there is a strong sense of belonging and a deep knowledge of the internal mechanisms,' Alessandra Balocco said in the interview published by Il Sole 24 Ore on 26 November 2022, three months after her brother's death. 'Alberto has always been the voice of the company externally, but he and I started together, over thirty years ago, and after a short time came my husband, Ruggero, who is in charge of the plant and whom Alberto considered as a brother. We have a solid structure, not very verticalised, with the people of the family in key roles alongside our historical collaborators who represent the human capital of the company'.
