Banco BPM: Castagna: ‘We won’t give up on MPS; we’ll do our best’
“This year we are involved in another major deal, in which we are up against a giant that is 7–8 times our size. That is the spirit of sport: never giving up, continuing to give your best, and doing everything you can.” This was stated by the CEO of Banco Bpm, Giuseppe Castagna, during an event at the Circolo Canottieri in Naples, as confirmed by financial sources, referring to the battle for Mps which saw Intesa Sanpaolo enter the fray. “I’m still fighting, having withstood an attack last year from a major Italian bank, which we won with great pride,” he added, alluding to UniCredit’s bid for Banco Bpm itself. “Then we know that it’s not just about sporting merit, but the resources at one’s disposal also count,” he concluded. “Banks thrive on the local area, on families, on businesses, on savings and on loans. We will try to do our bit.”
