Bankers, Uilca at congress between contract renewal and general secretary

The congress of Uilca, the union of bankers, tax collectors and insurance companies, will bring bankers and managers of insurance companies to Venice, at the Giudecca, from today to Thursday, from the ceo of Mps, Luigi Lovaglio to Matteo Bianchi, chief governance officer of Crédit Agricole Italia, Gianni Franco Papa, managing director of Bper, Sergio Gatti, general director of Federcasse, who will speak tomorrow, but also Stefano Vittorio Kuhn, managing director of Banco Desio, Elena Goitini, ceo of Bnl Bnp Paribas, and Carlo Cimbri chairman of Unipol, who will speak on Wednesday, when the day will close with a discussion with Claudio Martelli and the journalist and essayist Lirio Abbate on the theme of legality. Thursday will instead feature a speech by Giancarlo Fancel, country manager Italia Generali.

An intellectual, the writer and psychoanalyst Massimo Recalcati, opened the proceedings, which were to be attended by Massimiliano Fedriga, president of the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces, Donato Masciandaro, director of the Edufin (Financial Education) Committee, and Anna Rea, president of Adoc, as well as the secretary general of Uil, PierPaolo Bombardieri. The 8th Uilca congress led by Fulvio Furlan will close on Thursday with the election of the new general secretary and is entitled 'Faces to the Future'. The title plays on the 'double meaning of the word faces as a noun - the physiognomies, the protagonists - and as a past participle of the verb volgere - turned, oriented - to emphasise the projection of the union organisation towards the challenges awaiting the sector. Now that the Ania and revenue contracts are behind us, the prospect will be the renewal of the Abi and cooperative credit banking contracts.

Opening the Uilca Congress, as Fulvio Furlan recalled in his report, was an intellectual, Massimo Recalcati. A very well-considered choice: 'We entrusted the opening of the Congress to the lectio magistralis of an intellectual. With this choice we wanted to emphasise that in the dynamics we face all aspects refer to an ideal vision, which places the dignity of people, civil coexistence, and the logic of progress at the service of collective growth at the centre,' says Furlan. In this sense, for Furlan 'renewing the National Contract celebrates this recognition of the value of people and gives dignity to women and men, who contribute, with their work, to the collective social and economic evolution. From these considerations comes the importance of what we are doing in our sectors. A few days ago an agreement was reached for the renewal of the National Collections Contract. This was an important result in several aspects of merit in terms of wages and regulations, which will be illustrated during the proceedings. However, the agreement takes on a further and even more significant value in having recognised the centrality of the collection activity in the country and the decisive role of the workers in recovering resources to be used for the benefit of the community. This result, which emphasises the collection as a collective strategic asset, we hope is a decisive step to overcome a negative view of the tax collection sector and its staff and instead recognise their commitment and professionalism, with which they enforce laws often decided by the same politicians who then denigrate and delegitimise their activity. We believe that a correct view of tax collection and adequate funding of the activity to carry it out, which starts from the knowledge that in 2025 alone it provided the state with revenue of EUR 16.8 billion, can make people realise how essential it is for the country, especially in the indispensable fight against tax evasion'. Only a few days earlier, on 13 May, 'the renewal of the National Contract for insurance workers was signed with Ania. Here, too, the merit aspects should be emphasised,' Furlan noted. The agreement confirms the importance of the sector and enhances its role, which should be even more central in the country, 'especially considering that the public presence in areas such as social security and healthcare is progressively decreasing. A process that foresees a growth in the role of pension funds, to supplement the public pension, and of health policies, to supplement health spending. The renewal of the National Contract certifies the centrality of the insurance sector and reinforces its peculiar importance, so we hope that responsible action will be taken to enhance it, including through the development of the social role that companies can and must play," Furlan points out.
