Di Battista’s return to Italia has been postponed; he has undergone surgery in Cuba

Alessandro Di Battista’s return from Cuba has been postponed until a date to be confirmed. According to reports, Di Battista underwent surgery in Cuba, and the operation has resulted in the postponement of the former M5S MP’s return to Italia, which had been expected today. However, as also announced in a social media post by the Schierarsi Association – a post shared by Di Battista himself – “Alessandro Di Battista’s return has been postponed. We ask everyone to exercise the utmost discretion and caution when sharing information, pending further updates”.

Di Battista’s return to Italia from Cuba, where he had been hospitalised, was due to take place this afternoon. Alessandro Di Battista’s return to Italia from Cuba has therefore been postponed; the former M5S MP has been admitted to hospital in a serious condition for about a week, first in Santa Clara and then in Havana, following severe headaches. Any decision is therefore on hold pending the patient being deemed fit to fly. For this assessment too, two specialists from Rome’s Gemelli Hospital flew to Havana in recent days and are working alongside medical staff at the ‘Hermanos Ameijeiras’ hospital; they may travel on the flight that will bring Di Battista back to Rome. Accompanying the former MP are, amongst others, Sahra Lahouasnia, the mother of his two children, and Luca Di Giuseppe, president of Schierarsi, the association he founded. Di Battista himself had announced his return to Italia on social media (via an air ambulance, the costs of which were covered by the insurance company with which the former MP had taken out a policy). The former MP was in Cuba working on a journalistic report.
