With its 17 branches, 14 of which are in Umbria and 3 in Lazio, more than 3,700 members and 23,000 customers, the Bcc di Spello e del Velino presides over a total of 88 municipalities on the border between the two regions: "We are in an area of Central Italy, which without our presence would risk banking desertification," explains President Alessio Cecchetti, who began his second term of office a few weeks ago. A path that began immediately after the merger between the two banks, which 'has allowed us to improve risk management, through enhanced control structures, and free up resources for commercial development'.

Among the 66 banks that are members of the Cassa Centrale group, Bcc di Spello e del Velino is confirmed as a solid reality. The financial statements for 2023 closed with a profit of 4 million euro (+48% compared to 2022), intermediated assets exceeded 1.1 billion, with total funding increasing by 2.76% to 767 million euro (indirect funding, at 242 million, grew by 27%) and loans to 340 million euro (of which 153 to households and 187 to businesses and other entities), CET1 Ratio at 23.68% compared to 19.70% the previous year. In addition, net impaired loans dropped to 0.98% of net loans, with the coverage level of non-performing loans rising to 96.61%, while the ROE ratio stood at 9.30%. Last year, the bank disbursed a total of EUR 81.8m to households, businesses and to finance post-earthquake reconstruction. "We support dozens of exhibitions, film festivals, and cultural events of various kinds, which nevertheless have a relationship and representation in the territory," Cecchetti adds. These include the Spello Film Festival and the Spello Flower Festival, recognised symbols of Umbrian tradition and culture in the world.

Since 1907, the head office has never moved from Spello, a barycentric place with respect to its territory, strong in Perugia's influence, close to the production districts of Foligno and Spoleto, characterised by quality craftsmanship and high cultural value. "These are areas rich in small and medium-sized enterprises, artisans, and the men and women who build the real Made in Italy," the president emphasises. But it is also an area with certain complexities, which led the bank to sign an agreement with the Umbria Foundation for the prevention of usury: on the one hand, the agreement allows for constant dialogue between the foundation guarantor and the bank, building a privileged collaborative channel aimed at facilitating access to legal credit, and on the other it guarantees, due to the peculiarities of the situations dealt with, the application of favourable treatment ranging from the speed of the preliminary investigation to the free-of-charge nature of the operations.

The latest branch of the Bcc di Spello e del Velino has just been inaugurated in Giano dell'Umbria, a small municipality between Todi, Massa Martana, Montefalco and Gualdo Cattaneo. For President Cecchetti, it is a choice that is consistent with the idea of "being a local bank and close to the citizens, because going to a branch and getting to know the people who work there is an added value that no algorithm or app can ever replace".
