Artificial intelligence, climate change, and the protection of biodiversity and the oceans are the topics on the table at the G7 meeting on science and technology scheduled to be held in Bologna in July: this was said today in Turin by University and Research Minister Anna Maria Bernini, on the sidelines of the Conference of Scientific Attachés of Italian Embassies organised by the Foreign Ministry. Among the topics on the table, artificial intelligence has a cross-cutting role because of the implications it has on all the issues on the G7 table, and it is crucial, Bernini noted, to recognise that "it must have an anthropocentric dimension and objective because upstream and downstream of the algorithms there is biological intelligence", and that "it is functional to our needs".
Among the initiatives in this field, the minister pointed to those relating to security in research: 'There are some data that need to be protected because not everyone does research in a peaceful manner, someone also does it for personal gain; on this we want to have our say and with the G7 countries we are creating rules for security in research, which should be as open as possible and as closed as necessary'. The G7 will also discuss 'the loss of biodiversity and the protection of the seas and oceans: this is another issue that interests us very much'.
