Bernini: go for master's degrees for more specialised nurses
Specialised pathways in crucial areas, community primary care, emergency intensive care, paediatric neonatal care are born.
Key points
"Nurses are the presence that does not retreat, the competence that reassures, the professionalism that transforms care into a human relationship. Today we can say that together we have reached an important milestone: we have introduced clinical master degrees, a decisive step towards training increasingly specialised nurses, ready to face the challenges of contemporary medicine and new health needs'. These were the words of Anna Maria Bernini, Minister of Universities and Research, in a video message sent to the president of the National Federation of Nursing Professions Orders on the occasion of the Fnopi National Council.
Specialist courses
"The process of the measure is finally over. Thanks to you,' Bernini emphasised, 'because this means recognising that nursing care is an advanced skill, it means enhancing professionalism operating in increasingly complex contexts and strengthening the quality of care. Thus, specialised pathways are being created in crucial sectors, community primary care, intensive care emergency, paediatric neonatal care. New figures, targeted skills, more defined responsibilities'.
Career prospects
"Today's needs are increasingly socio-healthcare, and the role of nurses in this challenge is fundamental," added Health Minister Orazio Schillaci. "With the introduction of specialised master's degrees we are meeting the legitimate demands of young people who want career prospects and specific skills, and we are aiming to reverse a trend that for years has seen Italia train the best nurses only to see them often emigrate abroad. But we are also affecting the quality of the care system'.
