Hairstyles for the Holidays

New Year's Eve is the perfect time to show off a hairstyle that reflects the euphoria of the festivities and the hope of a new beginning, with glitter, sophisticated waves, special semi-bangles and elegant chignons. Whether an elegant or daring look, 31 December is the ideal occasion to dare with style and renew your look, giving the evening a touch of glamour and originality. Here are a few suggestions for inspiration.

The wet effect, the trend of the moment

Shiny, sophisticated and incredibly versatile, the wet look has returned to dominate the catwalks and everyday styling choices. This look, which evokes the image of hair just out of the water, is a perfect combination of modernity and boldness, adapting to every occasion, from the working day to a glamorous evening like New Year's Eve. "At the moment it is the most popular effect, it is much appreciated for that shiny and wet look at the same time," says Sabrina Arvizzigno, hairstylist at Arvi's Framesi Boutique in Milan. "This style can be made even more special by an almost shiny finish, which is perfectly suited to different hairstyles: chignons, low or high tails, or hair divided into neat locks with a well-defined central or side parting. Thanks to the use of gels and glitter, it is possible to create luminous and sophisticated effects by applying the glitter directly onto the gel and then working it into the hair with precision, obtaining shiny details. This versatile look can be styled in various versions: with the hair completely up, with soft waves left loose at the back, with elaborate braids, or for hairstyles combining smooth and shiny sections with more natural waves, a perfect styling for those with long hair. And for short hair? The starting point remains the same: the use of gel to shape the hair and creatively design the desired style using microglitters to add shine.

Colour and style, the coolest shades for hair.

Hair colour trends range from natural, warm tones to bolder, more original shades, offering options for every style and personality. "At the moment, the most popular shades are: Black Cherry, a deep red that tends to imitate the colour of sour cherries," continues the hairstylist. "It is a sophisticated shade that catches the eye thanks to its intensity. Blondes remain in vogue, but for the season they are evolving towards warmer and more enveloping shades. Slightly darker bases are favoured to create depth, with more intense or blended highlights, depending on the desired result. And for New Year's Eve? Bright shades and bold contrasts will be the absolute protagonists. Ranging from platinum blondes embellished with silver highlights to vibrant reds such as Black Cherry, the aim is to catch the light and catch the eye. For those who prefer a more sophisticated look, bronde enriched with soft highlights or dark brown with ash shades for timeless elegance is perfect".

Accessories to embellish the hairdo.

Hair styling is increasingly an expression of personality, which is why accessories are becoming the true protagonists to embellish and transform any look. "As far as accessories are concerned, headbands and bows are not among the most popular choices for New Year's Eve. Bows, for example, are better suited to the Christmas festivities, while for New Year's Eve the aim is to go for a more elegant and refined or flamboyant look," Arvizzigno concludes. "If you really want to show off a tail, it's better if it's soft. This style clearly differs from the wet effect, preferring a more natural and fluid texture. As for the bow, if you want to add it, it is better to opt for a colour ton sur ton with the outfit, creating harmony, or choose a contrasting shade which, however, remains consistent with the rest of the look. The must-have detail for New Year's Eve is glitter. It gives a touch of light and magic, transforming any hairstyle into a sophisticated and sparkling look, perfect for celebrating the most awaited night of the year.
