Biden: Trump is trying to 'steal' the mid-term elections
The former president warns in a public speech that Trump is trying to block elections to maintain traditional power
"In America, power still belongs to the people, for now. And the way to demonstrate this power is to show up and vote. And when we do that, it is bad news for Donald Trump, and he knows it. That's why he's trying to put up more and more barriers. He's trying to steal the election, because he knows he can't win your vote, so he'll do anything to stop you from wanting to vote." So Joe Biden, regarding the Midterm Elections, in what represents, for Donald Trump's predecessor in the White House, a rare public speech, the Guardian reports.
Speaking at the Columbia Museum of Art, in South Carolina, where he received an award for his political career, Biden also declared that the US is experiencing 'dark days', in a speech given just hours before the Trump administration launched attacks against Iran.
Picking up on a 2020 campaign slogan that had seen him beat Trump and end his first presidential term, Biden stated that "the battle for the soul of this nation is one that never really ends". He also criticised Trump for his handling of homeland security, citing the killing of US citizens Renee Good and Alex Pretti by federal agents in Minneapolis in January, highlighting the absence of any reference to the victims or words of comfort from the former president.
Biden finally remarked on how Trump did not offer support or recognition to Jeffrey Epstein's victims, underlining the former president's ties to the former financier.
Biden's speech comes at a time when Trump's approval rating is at an all-time low: according to a February 2026 Associated Press-Norc Center for Public Affairs Research poll, 61% of Americans disapprove of the administration of the current US president.
