Bocconi Maths Games: Del Prete-Falcone School among Italy’s top performers
The spotlight is once again on Sava, thanks to the achievements of the students at the Del Prete Falcone Institute, who have achieved a truly prestigious result at the International Mathematical Games Championships, accredited by the Ministry of Education and Merit as part of the Programme for the Promotion of Excellence.
Through to the final
Six students from the school, led and accompanied by Ms Piera Berdicchia, a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and the initiative’s coordinator, recently won the National Final of the competition organised by Bocconi University in Milan, having passed the selection rounds involving thousands of participants from all over Italia and from Italian schools abroad.
This achievement confirms the school’s trajectory of growth over recent years. The number of students from the school who progress through the preliminary rounds to reach the national stage continues to rise, reflecting an educational and methodological approach centred on the development of logical and mathematical skills, problem-solving and critical thinking.
The names
One student who stood out in particular was Adriano Franco, a third-year student on the Healthcare Biotechnology course, who ranked among the top 25 competitors in his category and received official recognition as one of the event’s national top performers.
The following reached the final:
Jacopo Marzo, Year 10 – Scientific High School of Applied Sciences;
Matteo Filograno, Year 12 – Electronics;
Matteo Fontana, Year 11 – Scientific High School of Applied Sciences;
Giuseppe D'Oria, fifth year – Electronics;
Michele Marasco, fifth year – Electronics.
The best maths talents from across the peninsula
This result is all the more significant given the high standard of the competition, which attracts the best young mathematical talents from across the country and beyond every year.
“This is an important achievement for our school, confirming the consolidation of logical and mathematical skills as one of our institution’s strengths, the result of our students’ merit and the quality of our educational provision,” emphasises headteacher Pierangela Scialpi. “Mathematics competitions are not only opportunities to test oneself against high-level challenges, but also valuable chances to compare oneself with other schools and to recognise one’s own potential.”
This success confirms the role of the Del Prete Falcone Institute as a centre of educational excellence, capable of promoting and nurturing students’ potential by offering them concrete opportunities to put their skills and abilities to the test and to cultivate passion and determination towards ever higher goals, with enthusiasm and a competitive spirit.
