Wood and furniture: Brianza’s exports rise by 3 per cent in the first half of the year
FederlegnoArredo’s figures on regional exports confirm the difficult national picture, with a few exceptions
Lombardy leads the way among the regions, Treviso among the provinces, and Monza-Brianza bucks the trend (+3 per cent in the first half of the year) against a backdrop of a sharp national decline.
Exports from the regions essentially confirm the trends observed in recent years and the pattern of overseas sales at national level. In 2025, according to figures compiled by the FederlegnoArredo research centre, Lombardy recorded a turnover of 10.6 billion euros, and in the first six months of 2026 it remained the leading Italian region in terms of the value of exports from the wood and furniture sector, with €2.2 billion, accounting for 29 per cent of the national total, down 3.9 per cent compared with the same period in 2025. At provincial level, Monza and Brianza recorded a positive trend, with exports from the wood and furniture sector totalling €613 million, up by 3 per cent.
Veneto retains its second place amongst Italian regions, both in terms of turnover in the timber and furniture sector – amounting to 8.4 billion euros in 2025 – and in terms of the number of businesses and employees, at 5,945 and 44,683 respectively. The largest contribution comes from the furniture sector, with a turnover of €5.3 billion, 2,948 companies and 27,129 employees.
A look at the region’s exports over the first six months shows that ‘Veneto remains Italy’s second-largest region in terms of the value of exports from the timber and furniture sector, which, in the first six months of the year, reached 1.8 billion euros, accounting for 23 per cent of the national total, representing a 4.4 per cent decline compared with the first half of 2025’. Treviso remains the leading Italian province in terms of total export value but, amongst the top ten Italian provinces, it is the one recording the sharpest decline: -8.3 per cent, equivalent to a reduction of over 10 million euros. In the furniture sector alone, Treviso is the leading Italian province in terms of export value, with €826 million, down 4.2% compared with the first half of 2025.
According to the final figures compiled by the FederlegnoArredo Research Centre, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, with a figure of around 4.3 billion euros in 2025, ranks as the third region in terms of production turnover within the wood and furniture sector. In the first six months of 2026, regional export figures – which account for 15 per cent of the national total – exceeded one billion euros, representing a 5.4 per cent decline compared with the same period in 2025.
