Varese: builder crushed to death on a building site

A 55-year-old bricklayer died instantly when a concrete slab fell and crushed him whilst he was working at a building site in Origgio (Varese), on Via Don Giovanni Minzoni. An emergency medical vehicle, an ambulance, the fire brigade and the police attended the scene.

The alarm was raised at around 9 am. Carabinieri from the Saronno detachment and staff from ATS Insubria also attended the scene. There was nothing that could be done for the 55-year-old: the paramedics could only confirm his death. The circumstances of the accident are still being investigated: enquiries are underway both to establish the causes of the accident and to assess the safety conditions at the building site and any potential liability.
