Brindisi: Canopy collapses at a building site – one dead and one injured
The father, who owned the business, lost his life but managed to save his son
Another tragic workplace accident in Puglia. A workman has killed and another has been rushed to the ‘Perrino’ hospital in Brindisi in critical condition following the collapse of a canopy at a construction site in Mesagne, in the Brindisi area. The first is Antonio D’Errico, aged 66, the owner of the company; the second is his 26-year-old son. Firefighters and local police officers from the station attended the scene to carry out investigations aimed at reconstructing the incident.
He must have realised immediately that the collapse could engulf his son, so he rushed towards him to get him out of the area, effectively saving his life. For Antonio D’Errico, however, there was nothing that could be done. The man was buried under the rubble after the collapse. This theory has been confirmed by investigative sources who are still at the scene carrying out investigations. All attempts by the paramedics who attended the scene to resuscitate the victim were in vain.
