Over-ear headphones are certainly an icon of the 1990s, but if you want to listen to music well at home without disturbing those around you, they have always been the best solution. Sonos, together with Bose and Sony, represents excellence in this field.
These Sonos Ace are distinguished by a bubble effect of the highest quality. The noise-cancelling system, based on 8 beamforming microphones, has the power to isolate you completely from the outside world. Noisy dogs and demanding cats magically go into mute mode. There is of course also a transparency mode that makes the outside world less outside. As for sound, we have 40 mm drivers that guarantee dynamics and sound quality at the highest level. This is also thanks to the very technical and precise smartphone application, which allows access to equalisation, spatial audio and head detection, and noise suppression functions. For example, the Ace's integrated motion tracking technology allows it to detect head movements to reconstruct spatial sound.
Also surprising is the ability of the headphones to connect to the soundbar at home to capture the sound of the TV. The autonomy is good, with a guaranteed duration of 30 hours listening or 24 hours calling. Nothing extraordinary. It should also be noted that the Sonos Ace is not waterproof, so it is set up as a home product.
In terms of design, Sonos engineers have worked meticulously to create a smart and well-crafted product. The earcups are connected to the central arch by a metal stem, the padding is memory foam so it adapts to the shape of your ear, and there are only three buttons to do everything. You will therefore have no specially created touch gestures. The combination of these solutions, together with the choice of materials, offers a very light pair of headphones (only 312 grams) that seem to be unworn. We are therefore talking about a really interesting product with a price that, unfortunately, remains in line with Sonos products: 499 euros.
