Alstom trains for Greece manufactured in Italy

Alstom trains for Greece manufactured entirely in Italy. French-based multinational Alstom, one of the global leaders in the railway industry, has signed a contract with Hellenic Train, Greece's main private railway company, for the supply of 23 Coradia Stream electric trains. The contract, worth a total of EUR 393 million, also includes maintenance services for a period of 10 years. Eleven trains will be destined for suburban services, while the remaining twelve will operate on long-distance intercity routes. The trainsets will reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h. The design and production of the trains will be carried out in Italy, at Alstom's Savigliano plant in the province of Cuneo. Hellenic Train is a wholly owned subsidiary of Trenitalia (Ferrovie dello Stato group).

Each train will consist of six carriages, with a differentiated seating capacity according to the planned service: intercity trains will offer 335 seats, while suburban trains will have 362 seats. There will be two access doors per side on the central carriages and one per side on the end carriages. The train is part of Alstom's Coradia range, a family of regional trains that has offered efficient performance and reliability throughout Europe for more than 30 years. Alstom has sold more than 4,500 Coradia regional trains worldwide. Many European countries, including Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Romania, already benefit from the comfort and high performance offered by the Coradia range.

To date, more than 800 Coradia Stream regional trains have already been ordered in Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Romania and Bulgaria. In Italy, the trains have been in service since mid-2019, confirming the high reliability of the product, while in Romania the Coradia Stream started passenger service in November 2024. The Coradia Stream platform also offers zero-emission solutions, such as battery and hydrogen traction, designed for non-electrified lines.

The maintenance programme includes preventive maintenance, scheduled overhauls and repair work over a 10-year period. Alstom's Coradia Stream trains are designed to be easy to maintain and equipped with systems capable of collecting accurate data, optimising costs over the entire life cycle. Maintenance services will be carried out at a depot in Athens, provided by Hellenic Trains and specially adapted to service the 23 Coradia Stream trains.
