Not only trains. Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) is also investing in road transport. Busitalia, a Trenitalia (Fs Group) company, is introducing the first five new buses on long-distance connections to and from Calabria on the Milan, Turin and Verona routes. The services, managed by Busitalia Rail Service, ensure direct connections to some of the main Italian cities in central and northern Italy, including Milan, Turin, Verona, Genoa, Bologna, Parma, Padua, Rome and Florence.
The new buses are part of 111 vehicles purchased with an investment of 44 million euros, which will progressively renew the Busitalia Rail Service fleet throughout Italy. This is the first step towards the complete renewal of the bus fleet dedicated to long-distance connections to and from Calabria, where the need for mobility and efficient connections remains a priority: a total investment of 8.7 million euros that will be completed by the end of the year.
The new buses are Mercedes Benz Tourismo 16RHD with Euro 6 engines and a seating capacity of 53; among the main features: reclining seats with adjustable footrests, individual tables, personal lighting; information monitors, air-conditioning system and toilet; wifi, Usb sockets and numbered seats. Busitalia, explains a note from FS, "thus confirms its commitment to investing in integrated mobility in the South, to offer transport solutions that are increasingly responsive to the expectations of travellers, in a constant dialogue with the needs of local communities".
