Caffè Borbone has tripled production and turnover in six years of investments to increase production capacity, totalling 70 million. The warehouse inaugurated in August became fully operational and space was freed up in the Caivano (Naples) plant for a further increase in production. At the same time, new investments are being prepared, on which the company is maintaining strict confidentiality for the time being.

Nine Month Review

.

The Neapolitan company closed the first nine months of the year with revenues of EUR 243.1 million, an increase of 10% compared to the same period in 2023. It continues, on the one hand, to develop the large-scale retail channel and, on the other, to record excellent performance in digital sales, with increases both on official e-commerce and on other specialised platforms and Amazon. The foreign market is also expanding: today it accounts for 10% but the aim is to increase it to 25%.

The Story

Founded in Naples in 1997, Caffè Borbone was among the first companies to bring 100% compostable pods to the market, with an emphasis on the concept of sustainability. Since 2018, the company has been part of the Italmobiliare group, which holds 60% of the capital, while the remaining 40% remains with founder Massimo Renda.

Sustainability

.

In the last three years, the company led by top manager Marco Schiavon has accelerated on the green transition and sustainability. Caffè Borbone is among the first producers of compostable pods, and has built photovoltaic systems that meet the company's entire needs. Since Italmobiliare's arrival in 2018, Caffè Borbone has supported the holding company in its efforts to reduce emissions in line with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTI). In January 2024, it consolidated the sustainable initiatives already activated over the years by formalising its direct adherence to the SBTi and thus starting its individual journey to reduce emissions both in the short term, by 2030, and net-zero by 2050. The strategy adopted envisages the involvement of supply chain partners, an accurate data monitoring system, and the preparation of ESG reports compliant with European and international standards.

Much attention has also been paid to coffee certification. "We use certified raw material _ explains CEO Schiavon _ exercising strict control over both agronomic practices and the quality of work. Even with respect to the law on deforestation, which requires that we only use coffee from areas where there are no forests, we have taken steps to apply it in advance of the 2026 deadline'.

Programmes 2025

.

This coming year, Caffè Borbone expects to make new hires in Caivano (today it has 304 employees) in order to further increase production. All this is also linked to the new investments that are also being studied within the framework of the steering committee of the Single Zones for Southern Italy.
