Thirty-five municipalities in inland Campania are ready to organise themselves to promote and manage tourism in a coordinated manner. The initiative has been promoted by the Sannio Smart Land Association and the GAL Titerno Scarl, together with the municipality of Telese Terme, which are aiming to set up a DMO (Destination Management Organisation), to which 35 municipalities in the vast area of Sannio Matesino have already decided to adhere: a demonstration of territorial cohesion and associative capacity that is the fruit of the Sannio and Gal experiences.
In practice, the promoters intend to adopt the Guidelines (approved by the Regional Council of Campania with Resolution 769 of 27/12/2024) and participate in the Campania Region's Call for Selection, a programmatic choice already deliberated in 2020 by a number of Municipal Councils of the Tammaro Titerno Inner Area within the framework of the National Strategy for Inner Areas.
This is a decisive step towards integrated and sustainable tourism governance for the Sannio Matesino territory with the Telesina and Titerno, Tammaro, Fortore, Volturno, Calore and Isclero Valleys. A homogeneous territory with a rich and varied offer that can attract different types of tourism: mountains, lakes and rivers, spas, wellness, art and archaeology, religious poles, the Via Francigena, the Tratturi and the Ippovie, wine and food routes, villages, castles, two regional parks and the Matese National Park.
The DMO (Destination Management Organisation) is a non-profit organisation that brings together public and private stakeholders active in the territory. Its purpose is to define and share promotion, governance and marketing strategies with the aim of improving the efficiency, cohesion, competitiveness and sustainability of the tourism offer.
The aggregation underway represents an unmissable opportunity for inland areas, which are often marginalised in tourism development paths but in recent years have become a strongly attractive element for tourist users. It offers the shared governance structure needed to qualify the offer, build recognisable territorial brands and involve businesses, operators and institutions in reception, communication and innovation programmes.
