The number of tourists choosing the open-air holiday formula is increasing, mainly campsites, campers, caravans and mobile homes. In the summer of 2025 the sector reached 8.5 billion between direct, indirect and induced turnover, while occupancy was 74 million overnight stays with a +3.3% increase over 2024, equivalent to one million more overnight stays according to Faita - Federcamping estimates based on HBenchmark and Ciset Ca' Foscari data. These are the data presented yesterday by Alberto Granzotto, president of Faita Federcamping, during the Forum Open Air 2025, organised in collaboration with Intesa San Paolo and Crippaconcept, a leading SME in the production of mobile homes.
After the pandemic, the sector continues to grow. 'The 2025 season has been a positive one, in the sign of continuity with the records set by the open air in the last three years,' Granzotto comments. 'This momentum is turning into a structural development that sees the investments made by our companies to raise the level of the offer and improve sustainability, accessibility and digitalisation performance being rewarded.
The guest mix has changed slightly this summer. Germany with around 45 per cent of admissions remains the number one market, but this year there has been a slight drop in arrivals, while the number of Austrians and Italians is on the rise. The big spenders are guests from Denmark with an average daily expenditure of almost EUR 165, followed by the Dutch (EUR 135) and ex aequo the Swiss and Austrians (EUR 123).
"In spite of the controversies that have animated the season, I would say that the summer went well for us,' the president continues, 'not only from an economic point of view, despite some physiological differences between territories, but also in terms of the preferences that tourists have accorded us, who are increasingly attentive to the environmental, cultural and sporting aspects of the holiday, specific elements of our offer.
The association has also endowed itself with its own Academy to support entrepreneurs in the sector. The mission is to provide training support in the evolution of the market, for technical and operational procedures for adapting to sector regulations and administrative fulfilments. An agreement was also announced between Telepass and Faita Federcamping to offer foreign tourists Telepass Grab&Go, an on-demand device that allows them to use basic Telepass services in pay-per-use mode.
