A capital increase to strengthen the company, but at the same time a corporate reorganisation that also involves changing the name of the company that controls the assets. A month after the purchase of the daily newspaper La Sicilia from the Ciancio Sanfilippo family, Palella Holdings, the family office led by the Italo-American businessman Salvatore Palella, has opened the subscription for the three-million capital increase of the company La Sicilia Investimenti Spa (which is then the new name of Domenico Sanfilippo Editore Spa) that controls the daily newspaper La Sicilia: a capital increase that, however, is reserved for the sole shareholder Sicily Investment Fund, a company wholly owned by Palella Holdings.
New additions also to the newspaper's advisory board: Emanuele Floridi, head of strategy and communication organisation @S.S.Lazio and integrated communication expert; Davide Raciti, senior executive at LinkedIn, who will lead the newspaper's technological evolution, strengthening of editorial platforms and commercial growth; and Guido Consoli, entrepreneur and innovator, currently general manager of Wash Out and Head of Growth Italia at Palella Holdings, who will provide the newspaper with his experience in service innovation, start-up growth and operational efficiency, contributing to the modernisation of processes and business models.
"The capital increase and the new advisory board demonstrate our determination to breathe new life into La Sicilia from a financial, managerial, and administrative point of view,' explains Salvatore Palella. 'All our efforts are aimed at strengthening the newspaper not only on the regional market, but also nationally and internationally, making it a point of reference for Sicilians around the world, also by exploiting the potential of the social channels, which have performed very well in the last month.
The first month of the new course of La Sicilia, of which Antonello Piraneo is editor-in-chief, 'has seen a sharp increase in views, engagement, and interactions on all of the newspaper's proprietary social channels,' reads a company note. According to the data released by the company, Facebook has reached 39 million views with +401% in the last month and 1.9 million interactions, Instagram is at 19.5 million views with +232.8% engagement and +30% followers, while tikTok has even recorded +1169% in terms of followers and 3.1 million views. LinkedIn recorded a 160% crtescita in terms of page views, +197% unique visitors and followers grew by 40%. "The new course of 'La Sicilia' will also manifest itself with an important graphic restyling that will be carried out by August and will be inspired by clarity, linearity, and ease of access to content," explains Palella. "The objective in fact is to aim, also through digital innovation, to exploit the Sicily brand, which coincides with the name of the newspaper that is known worldwide and can create an ideal bridge with the millions of Sicilians living abroad, particularly in the United States.
