China overtakes Japan to become the world's largest vehicle exporting country for the first time in 2023. According to figures released today by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (Jama), the Japanese manufacturers' association, the Rising Sun exported a total of 4.42 million vehicles last year, less than the 4.91 million claimed just a few days ago by its Mandarin counterpart organisation, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (Caam).
The overtaking came in the wake of the decisive boost in China of the booming electric car sector.
