The Car Design Awards 2025

.

The Car Design Award honours three categories: 'Concept Cars', 'Production Cars' and 'Brand Design Language' - the latter being awarded to the design team that has best worked on the consistency and transversality of the brand's design language across the entire product range.

The winners were chosen by a jury of experts, journalists from leading international automotive publications, for an objective assessment of the global automotive design scene, where Italy is represented by Silvia Baruffaldi, Editor of Auto&Design.

Lotus Theory 1

The winners and the reasons

.

The Theory 1 concept won the prestigious award in the concept category as it is not only inspired by three iconic Lotus models from the past (Type 72, Esprit and Eleven) but is also true to Colin Chapman's never-ending quest to reduce components and thus weight. Innovation, sustainability, advanced technology and an immersive driving experience - just looking at it makes your heart race.

The Ferrari 12Cilindri, on the other hand, was chosen for the Production Car category because its design condensed the historic essence of the Ferrari V12s of the Fifties and Sixties, revisited taking into account the aerodynamic requirements that today are a science and no longer just an intuition. An indissoluble bond with tradition that looks to the future and has led this project to unite two souls: sportiness and elegance, for an unconventional icon.

Renault Rafale

Finally, Renault won the award in the Brand Design Language category as the French brand embarked on a bold renewal path, combining a visual identity

strong ability to innovate and integrate sustainable solutions. Its new design language stands out for its expressiveness and personality, both when applied to new models and when it reinterprets the icons of its past in a contemporary way to promote electric mobility.
