Car hits five pedestrians in the Varese area; 17-year-old killed and four seriously injured
A 17-year-old girl has died following a tragic accident that occurred shortly before 4 pm on the Verbano State Road 394, in the municipality of Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca, in the province of Varese. According to initial reports, a car travelling towards Maccagno struck a group of five pedestrians, killing the teenager instantly and seriously injuring four other people aged between 15 and 30.
The driver was also injured but his life is not in danger. The Soreu dei Laghi operations centre launched a large-scale rescue operation, dispatching several air ambulances from bases in Como, Sondrio and Milan, as well as several ambulances, including vehicles from the Red Cross, Padana Emergenza in Luino and SOS in Cunardo, and an ASST Varese emergency medical vehicle. Carabinieri from the Luino unit are on site to investigate the incident. The SS 394 has been temporarily closed to traffic on the affected stretch, causing significant disruption to traffic flow.
