Cars, registrations up in Europe: +2.4% in November
Share of registered full electric cars exceeds 20%. Stellantis brakes recovery and makes -2.7%, Byd runs and gains 2% market share
One million 79,600 cars were registered in Europe (EU+EFTA+UK) in November, an increase of 2.4% over the same month in 2024. The gap compared to 2019 remains significant at 16.8% for the entire period, January-November. Since the beginning of the year, registrations were 12,098,687, an increase of 1.9% over the same period in 2024.
Considering the top five markets in Western Europe, in the January-November period, as highlighted by the Centro Studi Promotor, the worst situation is that of France, which remained below the pre-pandemic level by 27.2%, while Germany lost 21.4% and Italy 20.2%. The position of the United Kingdom is better, recording a drop compared to 2019 of 13.3%, alongside Spain, which is down 9.3% compared to the pre-pandemic level in the first eleven months of the year.
Among manufacturers, Stellantis slowed in November the recovery phase in volumes that had begun in recent months, recording a setback of -2.7% for the month and -4.5% since the start of the year, while Volkswagen grew by 4.6% since January and closed November with a recovery of 4.1%. The negative performance of Citroen, Jeep, Alfa Romeo and DS weighed on the Stellantis. Among the big players, Renault grew by 3%, while Toyota set the pace with -9.9% for the month and -6.7% year-to-date compared to 2024.
Among the emerging markets, Saic Motor consolidated a market share of more than 2 per cent and positioned itself in the ranking just behind Volvo, with growth of 2.9 per cent for the month and 26 per cent since the beginning of the year. Byd, in the midst of acceleration in Europe, recorded a tripled market share in the month compared to 2024 (2%). Finally Tesla which continues to decline in volumes, by 28% since January, by 11.8% in November.
The share of electric cars rose in November with a market share of 23.5% compared to 17.5% in November 2024. The most successful country is Norway with 97.7% share followed by Denmark with 73.7%, Iceland with 62.6% and Ireland with 41.5%. In the major markets, the share of electric in November reached 26.4% in the UK, 25.8% in France, 22.2% in Germany, 9.9% in Spain, and 12.3% in Italy thanks to incentives.
