There are 121,165 students with foreign citizenship enrolled in Italian universities, 6.3% of the total number of university students in Italy, a category that has grown by +74% in the last 10 years, from 69,582 enrolled in 2013/2014. This is what emerges from the 2024 report on immigration by Caritas and Migrantes, presented this morning in Rome.
These are both foreign students, students with foreign citizenship who graduated in Italy (31.5% of all university students in Italy with foreign citizenship and 2% of the total number of students), and international students, students who have embarked on a migration path for study reasons, leaving their families behind in their country of origin (4.3% of the total number of students enrolled in Italian universities and more than half of the students with foreign citizenship in Italy).
Foreign students come mainly from Romania (10,302), Albania (5,053), China (2,406), Ukraine (1,957) and Morocco (1,924), nationalities that are among the most present among foreign residents in Italy. International students, on the other hand, mostly come from Iran (9,837), China (5,687), Turkey (4,939), India (4,066) and Albania (2,971).
