European Car Market: ACEA reports a 13.1 per cent rise in registrations in June and a 6.1 per cent rise in the first half of the year

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - In June 2026, 1,407,332 cars were registered in Europe (EU27+EFTA+UK), representing a 13.1 per cent increase compared with the same month in 2025. In the first half of the year, registrations totalled 7,232,066, up 6.1% year-on-year. This is according to ACEA, which specifies that, for the European Union alone, registrations in June totalled 1,147,962 (+13.6 per cent) and 5,896,683 (+5.7 per cent) in the first half of the year.

Turning back to the European figures, by vehicle type, registrations in June totalled 360,843 for electric cars (+51 per cent), 146,168 for plug-in hybrids (+22.7 per cent), 488,640 for hybrids (+17.1%), 294,230 for petrol cars (-12.2%) and 81,978 for diesel cars (-16.9%). In the first half of the year, registrations totalled 1,608,200 for electric cars (+35.1 per cent), 742,411 for plug-in hybrids (+24.8 per cent), 2,671,955 for hybrids (+12.1%), 1,590,767 for petrol cars (-16.2%) and 467,561 for diesel cars (-17%).
