'I have set up a technical table at my ministry, together with Minister Roccella, to draft a single text on gender-based violence. This document will have an innovative approach as it will focus on the entire female universe, addressing all women's rights. It will be an organic text that will start with education and training in schools to promote a culture of respect, and will go on to deal with regulations on women's inclusion in the world of work'. The announcement came from the Minister for Institutional Reforms Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati. The minister spoke about it in Milan during the event 'Women in the Crosshairs. Recognising spy crimes to prevent violence. AI as a tool against gender-based violence'.

Roccella: work initiated by Semenzato's bicameral commission

'The Consolidated Text on Violence against Women is a work initiated by the Bicameral Commission on Violence on the inspiration of President Semenzato. The aim is to present it on 8 March. It will be a combination of what has already been done against violence, widening the field also to the fight against economic violence,' said the Minister for Family, Birth and Equal Opportunities Eugenia Roccella at the XXIV edition of the exhibition Italia Direzione Nord, promoted by the Fondazione Stelline, underway at the Milan Triennale.

Fundamental economic autonomy

.

"Economic autonomy is one of the basic prerequisites for women to build their own freedom. Unfortunately, there are situations in which a woman suffers violence, not only physical but also psychological, within the family. In many cases, this violence manifests itself through continuous humiliation, such as being told every day 'You are worth nothing', 'You always depend on others', words that feed deep disesteem and personal debasement. Without an economic possibility, it becomes difficult for these women to move away from these oppressive situations," said the minister.

Roccella: deep unity needed on the issue

"The fight against violence against women if it is not by everyone will never be truly successful, although I am convinced that it can be. Cultural traits that once seemed deeply rooted in the male mentality, I am thinking of the extenuating circumstances of honour killings, today there is no trace of this mentality. Even the mentality, even the cultural attitude can change, but there must be real and profound unity on the issue," said Family, Natality and Equal Opportunities Minister Eugenia Roccella on the sidelines of a conference in Rome 'Violence and harassment, what women don't say', promoted by the CUGs - Single Guarantee Committees in the public administration. Last 25 November 'the last vote for the approval of the law against violence,' Roccella recalled, 'happened substantially in the wake of the Cecchettin case, which really struck public opinion in an extraordinary way and therefore also acted as a flywheel for raising awareness and marked a point of unanimity and unity that should be continued over time.

Numerous centres offer support

.

'Today, fortunately,' said Minister Casellati, 'there are many centres that offer support: spaces where women can find protection, work guidance and paths to rebuild their lives. These interventions, together with job placement, are a form of prevention, as are education and training'. On the other hand, casellati emphasised, 'there is no lack of repressive and protective measures to guarantee reception and support for women victims of violence. It is essential that a woman knows where to go and how to continue after painful events that often mark the whole family. This is especially true in contexts where there are children, since a child who grows up witnessing violent behaviour may internalise and reproduce such dynamics in the future. These are sensitive issues that affect not only women, but the entire family unit, and require integrated and coordinated responses'.
