Late yesterday evening, 23 May, at his home in Milan, the Magnifico Rettore of the Università Cattolica Professor Franco Anelli, 60 years old, tragically passed away. According to what has been reconstructed by the Carabinieri, who intervened on the scene with the legal doctor, after the 118 emergency services, Franco Anelli suicided by jumping from the sixth floor of the building in the centre of Milan where he lived. Investigators and the forensic doctor have ruled out the intervention of third parties.
With deep dismay, the Community of the Università Cattolica and the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS, to which he dedicated his work and his entire life, gathers in mourning and prayer, expressing heartfelt condolences to his mother and loved ones.
Mass in his memory

The student associations 'La Svolta per gli Studenti' and 'Ateneo Studenti' invite everyone to attend. 'As representatives, we have decided for the moment not to make statements in order to respect the time of mourning,' reads the statement released by the associations. A conference with the participation of Anelli was also planned for this morning.
The Pontiff also remembers the Rector of the Catholic University and expresses his 'closeness to his mother, relatives and the entire university family'. Pope Francis in particular emphasises, in a telegram to the Catholic University signed by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, Professor Anelli's commitment 'to the promotion of Christian values in the university sphere, favouring dialogue with the new generations'.
His academic career
.Rector of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore since 2013, he was in his third term. After graduating, he graduated in law at the Catholic University of Milan.
