Changes at the top at Philip Morris: Hannappel appointed president for Europe, Kuterdem for Latin America and Canada
The new appointments take effect from 1 August 2026. Hannappel succeeds Massimo Andolina, who has been appointed Chief Financial Officer
Marco Hannappel is to become the new president of Philip Morris International for the Europe Region, whilst Can Kuterdem will take up the role of president for the Latin America and Canada Region. The new appointments will take effect from 1 August 2026 and form part of the enhanced organisational model presented at the end of 2025 by the US-based company, a global leader in the consumer goods sector.
The new president for Europe
Marco Hannappel, who holds a degree in economics from the University of Florence, previously served as vice-president of Samsung Electronics Italia. He subsequently served as chairman and chief executive officer of Philip Morris Italia from 2020 to 2025 and, thereafter, as chairman for the Latin America and Canada region.
He succeeds Massimo Andolina as President for the Europe Region; Andolina will take up the post of Chief Financial Officer, also with effect from 1 August. As President for Latin America and Canada, Hannappel has strengthened dialogue with external stakeholders and promoted the transformation of both the market and the organisation.
Hannappel’s career
In his role as CEO of Philip Morris Italia, however, he had accelerated the transition towards smokeless products, whilst also contributing to the development of an integrated supply chain entirely dedicated to their production, which currently comprises around 8,000 businesses and over 44,000 people in direct, indirect and related employment.
Furthermore, from 2023 to 2025, he served as Area Vice President for South-West Europe, with responsibility for Italia and the Iberian Peninsula.
