Sicily Channel, NGO: 7 migrants dead in shipwreck and 2 on board ship

Seven people reportedly died at sea, according to survivors rescued yesterday by Sos Humanity in the Sicilian Channel. And during the night, two more people died on board the Humanity 1 that had rescued them and is now heading towards Porto Empedocle, after the Italian authorities had initially assigned Bari to bring the 34 survivors ashore, says the NGO, stressing that "the assignment of a distant port was not only a violation of maritime law, but also inhuman". Yesterday marked the twelfth anniversary of the 3 October shipwreck that claimed 368 lives on Lampedusa.
