Charles Forte: 'Now the Carlton in Milan, then we aim for 11 hotels in Italy'

It will officially open its doors today, Tuesday 18 November. A long-awaited address in the city that of The Carlton, Rocco Forte hotel. In Milan, the group has long been searching for a suitable location for its existing offer. The new jewel of the hôtellerie will open in the prestigious Via della Spiga, at number 8, but will also have an entrance from Via Senato.
"The hotel will have 73 rooms, a winter garden and a restaurant, supervised by Michelin-starred chef Fulvio Pierangelini, and a bar curated by renowned mixology expert Salvatore Calabrese, in addition to the garden and the Irene Forte Spa," Charles Forte, scion of the hotelier family and vice president of group development, tells Il Sole 24 Ore.
The interiors were designed in authentic Milanese style by Paolo Moschino and Philip Vergeylen, as were the ten or so flats inaugurated a few months ago in Via Manzoni, in a building that guarantees privacy but residency in the city centre and that is so popular with international managers and families looking for a home in the city for a few months.
Rocco Forte hotels thus opens its first hotel in Milan, the group's 14th since The Balmoral in Scotland in 1996. Since then there have been openings in Florence and Rome, the Savoy and De Russie respectively, and in Sicily, with the Verdura and Villa Igiea hotels. In Italy, Rocco Forte also runs the Masseria Torre Maizza in Apulia.
Abroad, the Astoria in St Petersburg was opened in 1999, the Amigo in Brussels in 2000 and the Brown's in London two years later.
