Chery: not just cars – it is now focusing on AI and superchips to take on the global market
The Chinese group is investing in technological innovation for hybrid and electric cars and driver-assistance systems, with the aim of climbing the global rankings of car manufacturers.
Yin-Tongyue, chairman of the Chery Group, presented the Yaoguang 2035 plan at the Innovative Global Conference currently taking place in Wuhu, China. It is the roadmap guiding the Chinese group’s industrial transformation by creating an ecosystem in which artificial intelligence, semiconductors, next-generation batteries, software and robotics can work in synergy, even beyond the automotive sector. This sector, however, is by no means taking a back seat, particularly given that the Chery Group aims to rise from ninth to fifth place in the global rankings of car manufacturers.
Chery: the revolution is based on the use of AI and proprietary chips
The new strategy is based on the steady increase in research and development activities, to which Chery has dedicated over 100 billion yuan – approximately 14 billion euros – over the last five years, and to which it will add a further substantial sum in the near future, although it has not specified the exact amount at this stage. Within this framework, the in-house developed physical AI model plays a significant role. Indeed, it is not only integrated into the chain of design, development, production and even the commercialisation of cars, but also into new integrated energy solutions, driver assistance systems and the embodied AI of humanoid robots that interact autonomously in domestic and urban environments. In short, the widespread use of AI is extending engineering expertise from the automotive sector into new areas. Indeed, by integrating these capabilities into a single shared intelligent platform, Chery is developing new solutions for smart mobility and everyday life.
Chery, the in-house-developed physical AI
CheryMind is the foundational model developed by the Chinese group for the automotive sector, designed for physical artificial intelligence, integrated energy solutions, advanced driver-assistance systems and embodied AI robots. In short, it is the core technology through which Chery will increasingly extend its automotive engineering expertise into new fields.
