Who is the negotiator for Iran, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf
According to a source in the Jerusalem Post, citing Israeli sources, and the Israeli newspaper Ynet, it is the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, who is leading the talks with the United States for a agreement that would end hostilities, at least temporarily.
Ynet reports that the negotiations are mostly conducted indirectly, so it is unclear whether the Americans have direct contact with Ghalibaf, while the US newspaper Axios writes that US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are negotiating with Ghalibaf.
Also Axios, with Barak Ravid on X, citing an Israeli source, writes that the countries that are mediating between the US and Iran are trying to arrange a meeting in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, with the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Ghalibaf, and other officials representing Tehran, as well as, besides Witkoff and Kushner, possibly also Vice President J. D. Vance representing the United States, probably by the end of this week.
