Chiesi, Maria Paola as president: first woman at the top of the group
Planned change in the governance of the Parma-based group: Alessandro Chiesi leaves the presidency and assumes the role of vice-president
Chiesi entrusts Maria Paola Chiesi with the presidency of the Board of Directors and opens a new phase in the governance of the Parma-based biopharmaceutical group. The appointment, announced today and effective immediately, marks a significant step also on a symbolic level: Maria Paola Chiesi is the first woman to hold this position in the company's history.
The transition was planned and is part of the path of family continuity and intergenerational responsibility that characterises the group. Maria Paola Chiesi succeeds her cousin Alessandro Chiesi, who ends his term after almost three years as President and will continue to be part of the governance as Vice-President.
During his tenure, Alessandro Chiesi led the company through a period of international development and strengthened governance. "It has been a privilege for me to serve as chairman during a period of evolution for the company," said Alessandro Chiesi. "What has remained unchanged are the group's solid roots in our distinctive values, strong sense of responsibility and long-term vision. I congratulate Maria Paola on her appointment and offer her our full support."
The new chairwoman, a member of the family and of the Board of Directors, has contributed over the past thirty years, including through operational roles, to the group's strategic planning and the integration of sustainability into decision-making processes. Her appointment, unanimously approved by the Board, aims to strengthen this very axis: sustainability as a stable pillar of industrial strategy, an integral part of the business model and long-term value creation.
