residences and hotels. And then an arena able to accommodate 6500 people, a spa and wellness centre, commercial and catering activities, squares, arcades, green spaces. This is the ChorusLife project, an idea of Gewiss founder Domenico Bosatelli, which has now become reality with the official inauguration of the new smart district in the city of Bergamo.

A model of urban regeneration developed by architect Joseph Di Pasquale, giving new life to a former industrial area and realising the idea of the cruise ship that Bosatelli had originally imagined as a key metaphor for the entire project.

This is a challenging project that has seen a private family investment of half a billion euros, a project that has generated an estimated economic spin-off worth twice as much and will create 500 new jobs when fully operational.

Entirely realised by the Polifin group and its subsidiaries Costim (Impresa Percassi, Gualini and Elmet) and Gewiss, drawing on suppliers and component suppliers in the vicinity, with 80 per cent of supplies sourced within a 50-kilometre radius, 96 per cent of companies located in Lombardy, more than four out of ten in Bergamo.

A path started in 2018 through the signing of a programme agreement with the Region, the Province and the Municipality, which was followed by a phase of reclamation and redevelopment, adding infrastructural investments by the property beyond those envisaged in the agreement, including the forthcoming construction of the new Palazzetto dello Sport in Bergamo.

"Today," explained Costim CEO Davide Albertini Petroni, "we are celebrating an extraordinary achievement, the result of years of commitment and fruitful cooperation between the public and private sectors. The constant dialogue with local institutions was fundamental to ensure that ChorusLife was not just a work of urban transformation, but a real growth opportunity for Bergamo. Through the synergic work of our subsidiaries, we were able to develop new skills, new technologies, and above all a digital approach to the management of the Smart District, which I remember will remain internal to the Group, and which will become a reference for other future projects in Italy and abroad'.

'ChorusLife,' adds Di Pasquale, 'I believe it represents a unicum in the panorama of European urban regeneration projects, born from the encounter between two people, between Cavalier Domenico Bosatelli's vision of sociality and technology and my vision of the city and architecture. The generating principle is to make space for an inclusive relationality without distinctions and between generations. It has not been a simple project, but a real life path, made up also and above all of people. Over these years we have seen ChorusLife come into being, realise itself and grow to completion, and today we are handing over an exciting urban space to the city. I truly hope that the citizens of Bergamo will love this place as much as I did when I designed and planned it, and as much as Cavalier Bosatelli wished and loved it, inspiring its vision and spirit".

"ChorusLife," explains Polifin and Gewiss president Fabio Bosatelli, "is much more than the realisation of a project: it is my father's vision, idea and dream come to life, a legacy that we have chosen to honour with dedication and love for our city. This achievement is the result of a journey made up of challenges, commitment and adjustments, but above all of incredible teamwork. I want to express my deepest thanks to the team that believed in this dream and made it possible. Looking to the stars is our way of continuing to grow, of always looking up to find the way. It is with pride that we give the city a new opportunity to experience and share events and emotions. Let us experience them together!".

'For Bergamo,' comments Mayor Elena Carnevali, 'this is a turning point: the transformation of a disused and degraded area, steeped in industrial history, into a pulsating heart of urban life. Thanks to the enlightened vision of Cavaliere del Lavoro Domenico Bosatelli and the determination of his family, an innovative space has come to life, welcoming and inviting people to enter a new and contemporary part of the city that perhaps, until today, we had not yet had, and, above all, of this size with residences and commercial activities, a large square dedicated to socialising, and a modern Arena capable of hosting events and shows that the city was lacking. This project is much more than urban regeneration: it represents a concrete example of public-private collaboration, made possible by an extraordinary investment by the Bosatelli family, which exceeded all initial estimates to guarantee quality urbanisation works, from environmental reclamation to strategic infrastructures".

Finally, at the end of the inauguration ceremony, Giovanna Terzi Bosatelli took the floor: 'At this moment there are so many emotions that I feel, but I want to express above all my satisfaction and pride at having reached the opening of ChorusLife today. Above all, I want to express my most sincere and authentic thanks to all the people who have contributed to the realisation of this splendid dream, my husband's dream, a marvellous idea that today we are presenting and handing over to the city

Located in the heart of the historical village of Santa Caterina, close to the Gewiss Stadium, ChorusLife is in a strategic position for both road and rail connections. At the confluence of the Brembana and Seriana valleys, it is located at the point where the current T1 tramway and the future T2 will run, as well as being connected to the railway station and, through it, to the future line for the Orio al Serio airport.

L’arena polifunzionale

The basic idea is not to alter the existing fabric, but to enrich it with new green areas, more than 15 thousand metres, also focusing on sustainability: iin energy terms, the area will be self-sufficient, while water consumption will be minimised thanks to a system for collecting rainfall, more than 40 thousand cubic metres over the course of the year.
