Cigarettes, new price increases: here are the prices

There is no peace for smokers. As of today, Friday 13 March, cigarette prices have been updated for the third time in a few months. The first price increase, after all, dates back to January this year, and the second only last month. Heated tobacco and liquids for electronic devices are also in the crosshairs.

A nasty surprise then for those who went to the tobacconist's this morning. Numerous brands and types of products are affected. The price increase is only a few 'pennies', with an average of 10 to 15 cents. Some formats, however, have broken through the 6 euro ceiling.

The hit comes from a decision by the Customs and Monopolies Agency. The decision is part of a fiscal adjustment provided for in the budget law. The change in the list update concerns excise duties, the increase of which is currently planned until 2028, reaching 40 cents.

The lever thus becomes a brake on tobacco consumption. But raising the economic barrier also has another objective, namely to get the more than 12 million Italian smokers to kick the habit. In fact, in addition to guaranteeing tax revenues, the aim is also to protect public health.

Retailers only have to update their price list, while the customer will have to do some maths in his pocket. According to the latest document released by the Agency, the cost for a packet of Chesterfields now ranges between EUR 5.50 and EUR 5.80. Black jersey for Marlboro Gold, Silver Blue and White.
