Undue citizenship income, Bossi junior on trial: he received 280 euro every month for 43 months

False attestations to obtain citizenship income not due: for this he goes on trial Riccardo Bossi, the eldest son of Lega Nord founder Senatur Umberto Bossi. The decision was taken at the hearing before the Gup of the Court of Busto Arsizio, in the province of Varese. It was prosecutor Nadia Calcaterra who requested the trial, while Bossi's lawyers, who was not in court, asked (and obtained) admission to the abridged trial, an alternative rite that by law guarantees a one-third sentence discount in the event of conviction.

The Inps has joined as a civil party. The next hearing has been set for 14 January 2025, on which date the proceedings are scheduled to be discussed, but the verdict could already be handed down. Bossi Jr. has never commented on the charges against him and in front of the prosecutors he exercised his right not to answer. According to investigators, between 2020 and 2023 he unduly cashed in the citizenship income. According to the reconstruction by prosecutor Calcaterra, the Senatur's son received EUR 280 every month for 43 months, for a total amount of EUR 12,800. The payment of the citizenship income was linked to the rent of a flat. However, when the investigators started their investigation, Bossi had already been evicted from the flat a year ago because he was in arrears: he had not paid the rent. Hence the charge.

Riccardo Bossi is no stranger to court cases of this kind. In 2020, he was reported for failing to pay a hefty bill for a champagne dinner in a well-known restaurant in Milan. A few weeks earlier he had done the same thing in Florence. In 2014, he had been convicted by the court in Busto for failing to pay the bill in a well-known jewellery shop in the town in the Varese area, where he had bought a valuable watch and other jewellery including a gold necklace worth several thousand euros. In 2017, he had been sentenced by the court of Varese for failing to settle accounts relating to work carried out at home (we are talking about the installation of LED lights) and car maintenance (the changing of tyres).
