Claude becomes a single platform: chats, documents, slides and self-directed work all come together in the same window

Anthropic is attempting to eliminate one of the complications created by the race for agents: figuring out which tool to use. From today, Claude Chat and Cowork – the environment designed to entrust more complex tasks to AI – are merging into a single Claude. The idea is simple: it will no longer be up to the user to choose the working mode, but Claude will work out which tools, skills and connectors are needed to complete a task.
It is a change to the interface, but above all to the usage model. Until now, a quick question would end up in the chat, a detailed project in Cowork, and visual content in Design. The problem, as Anthropic acknowledges, is that work started in one environment did not always follow the user into another. Now, everything starts with a conversation.
The second new feature is Claude Docs, Claude Slides and Claude Design, all of which are currently in beta. Docs is the new collaborative environment for writing documents together with the AI: Claude can draft sections, ask questions, comment on choices and work on the same file alongside colleagues. Documents can be exported to Google Docs or Microsoft Word.
With Claude Slides, all you need to do is ask for a presentation: as the blog explains, the system generates the slides, which can be edited directly within Claude, presented, or exported to PowerPoint or PDF. Design applies the same principle to infographics and visual content. The materials remain live documents: they have a shareable link and can be edited manually or by giving Claude new instructions.
But the most interesting bit is about Cowork.
Claude can start with a request, retrieve information via connectors, generate a report and create a presentation from it, all without switching environments. In the example provided by Anthropic, reports and slides are generated from the same conversation, thereby keeping the data and context aligned. The work can continue even whilst the user is away from the computer and can be scheduled to run repeatedly, for example every Monday. This is where Claude really stands out.
