Thunderstorm supercells ready to strike, risk of hail and cloudbursts in some northern regions but African heat remains in the centre and south.
This is the announcement of Lorenzo Tedici, meteorologist of the www.iLMeteo.it website, confirming that, from Wednesday afternoon, the arrival of an unstable French front is expected: a disturbance that will break into Italy causing a sudden worsening of the weather conditions over some of our regions.
The hardest hit areas will be northern Piedmont, northern Lombardy and inland areas of Liguria and in particular the provinces of Verbania-Cusio-Ossola, Varese and Como will suffer torrential rains.
According to Tedici, the total rainfall, expected between Wednesday afternoon and the early hours of Thursday, amounts to around 100/150 litres per square metre, which is the equivalent of the total rainfall that normally falls in some areas during the entire month of June.
At the same time, especially on the plains between Vercelli, Novara and Milan areas, some 'super thunderstorm supercells' with the possibility of large hail and strong winds could develop.
