Cohesion policy is a strategic ally in the fight against climate change

The European Union is faced with climate change, with a necessary response to increasingly frequent emergencies (with damage costing EU countries EUR 800 billion over the past 40 years) and an equally necessary need for a prevention policy. In this context, cohesion policy, together with other EU instruments, is a powerful ally in the fight against climate change. Which hits hardest where the imbalance, also economic and social, is most marked.

The book, published in the framework of the Cohesion4Climate project, tightens the focus on the impact of climate change and the measures taken in this field with the support of cohesion policy, in Italy and other South-East European countries. It is divided into two parts: the first part is dedicated to the framing of the theme in some of its different declinations; the second to a series of concrete cases recounting experiences of projects and initiatives supported by cohesion policy funds. With a final coda dedicated to a civic monitoring experience carried out by Monithon with the University of Siena.

The initiative is part of the Cohesion4Climate project financed by the European Commission and implemented by Sole 24 Ore, Issirfa-CNR, Osservatorio Balcani Caucaso e Transeuropa; Monithon.
