Covid Commission: Bignami (FdI) resigns – a lesson for Conte
The Fdi group leader in the Chamber of Deputies: the incompatibility that others are using as a shield no longer applies, so that all questions can be answered
Stepping down to be questioned. This is the move made by the leader of the Fratelli d’Italia group in the Chamber of Deputies, Galeazzo Bignami, in the Covid committee, in which he calls out the leader of the M5S Giuseppe Conte.
“Following the request made by the Covid inquiry committee to hear my evidence as part of its proceedings, I wish to announce that I have just tendered my resignation as a member of the committee. By resigning, the issue of incompatibility – which others have been using as a shield – is removed, allowing me to answer any questions the committee members may wish to ask me regarding the matters of which I am aware,” said Bignami.
“Now,” he adds, “I hope this might also serve as an example to Giuseppe Conte, who continues to hide behind the immunity afforded to him as a member of the Commission, so that he may be questioned and shed light on the many issues that have been coming to light in recent weeks.”
Conte to the Speakers of the Chambers: I’m ready to make my views known, but I won’t be leaving the committee
“It has now been almost two years since” I offered to Chairman Marco Lisei “my willingness to be heard by the Committee in whatever form and manner deemed appropriate”. “Since then, I have never withdrawn this offer; however, Mr Lisei has not taken any concrete action on it. I am therefore compelled to appeal to your authority – even if only through moral suasion – to ask you to intercede with the Committee Chair so that I may be heard as soon as possible, by agreeing on the first available date.” “However, I have no intention whatsoever of relinquishing my role as a member of the Committee once the hearing is complete, and I therefore ask” Fontana “to act as guarantor from this moment onwards to ensure that no obstacles are placed in the way of my prompt reinstatement to the Committee”. This is what the leader of the Five Star Movement, Giuseppe Conte, wrote in a letter sent to the Presidents of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.
